Summary

Appropriate for all facets of life。 It helped to break down motivations and develop strategies to increase our good habits and break the bad ones。 It's very helpful to understand who we are at the core so that we can create strategies that work。 Appropriate for all facets of life。 It helped to break down motivations and develop strategies to increase our good habits and break the bad ones。 It's very helpful to understand who we are at the core so that we can create strategies that work。 。。。more

I love this book。 I finished it and was ready to start reading it again more slowly so I can work on some of the changes he suggests。

As the book began I kept thinking to myself, "this is common knowledge, why am I paying for this?!" But then Clear went deeping, giving tangible tools on how to utilize behavior patterns, how to implement long lasting habits, and how to keep the momentum。 I would recommend this to anyone! The hype doesn't lie, this book is worth it。 Rich with useful tips and ideas, helpful and without all the narcissist and repetitive bull*** that self help books tend to be full of。 The hype doesn't lie, this book is worth it。 Rich with useful tips and ideas, helpful and without all the narcissist and repetitive bull*** that self help books tend to be full of。 。。。more

A good read。Book provides a blueprint to develop habits。 Every chapter starts with a real-life example which validates the practicality of the approach。Everyone has their personal hacks to build up good habits and break bad ones。 This book also serves as a validation for those hacks。 I am using it to develop a habit to read books。 Initial results are promising as I completed the book。In general, it's easier to repeat a task if there's a template。 So if you want to pick a new habit or break a bad A good read。Book provides a blueprint to develop habits。 Every chapter starts with a real-life example which validates the practicality of the approach。Everyone has their personal hacks to build up good habits and break bad ones。 This book also serves as a validation for those hacks。 I am using it to develop a habit to read books。 Initial results are promising as I completed the book。In general, it's easier to repeat a task if there's a template。 So if you want to pick a new habit or break a bad one, following the template of this book might be a good start。 。。。more

If you've ever googled how to learn a new language or how to eat better or anything remotely related to behavior change, this book isn't going to be strictly speaking revolutionary, but it is an excellent summary of a bunch of little things - hehe, atomic things - that you can do to create better habits and get rid of nasty ones。 If you've ever googled how to learn a new language or how to eat better or anything remotely related to behavior change, this book isn't going to be strictly speaking revolutionary, but it is an excellent summary of a bunch of little things - hehe, atomic things - that you can do to create better habits and get rid of nasty ones。 。。。more

Solid ideas with a bunch of padding to market it as a book。 Anecdotes and such which as others have pointed out are not told with full context to support the thesis of the book。

Aplenty to learn but the following summarises for now:Make good habits 1) obvious 2) attractive 3) easy 4) Satisfying。Make bad habits 1) Invisible 2) Unattractive 3) Hard 4) Unsatisfying。 I will reread this and make more edits。 The following is what I remember off the top of my head and that that's the next step to do it。1。 Habits are accumulative。 You don't see the rewards today but it will pay off in the future。 One degree of trajectory will bring you elsewhere as your destination。 Everything Aplenty to learn but the following summarises for now:Make good habits 1) obvious 2) attractive 3) easy 4) Satisfying。Make bad habits 1) Invisible 2) Unattractive 3) Hard 4) Unsatisfying。 I will reread this and make more edits。 The following is what I remember off the top of my head and that that's the next step to do it。1。 Habits are accumulative。 You don't see the rewards today but it will pay off in the future。 One degree of trajectory will bring you elsewhere as your destination。 Everything else that follows depends on your habits, your habits pave the choices of your next actions。 A certain kind of habits will only lead you to one way, not the other2。 Priming - preparing before everything。 e。g。 Clean after yourself or pack the area so that the next time you come back will be clean and you're already ready to do your work or be in the zone。 Prepare for the next few days beforehand。 Prepare for the next day the night before。 3。 Change mindset - instead of saying "I have to go to the gym" "I have to work"。 Change it to "I get to increase my dopamine!" "I get to increase my income!" - I will read other books to apply this better。4。 Motion and action is different。 Every time I think of doing something and it's "progress", it's actually motion。 The real progress is when actions are done。5。 Track your habits - the paper clips method。 I might list down the things i want to do everyday and then strike out。It's a book that I definitely want to read again this year because there are too many useful things that I can apply。 。。。more

I have read the Power of Habit before, maybe it wasn't the right time for me, but that book was full of theory and so many dry case studies - useful, but not directly applicable。 Not even relatable。 It tells you why you brush your teeth, but doesn't tell you how to do your dishes everyday。 This book however, is the guide to everyday life。 There are many things I could say about this book, because it has contributed to my happiness more than anything else I've read recently, but it changed one ke I have read the Power of Habit before, maybe it wasn't the right time for me, but that book was full of theory and so many dry case studies - useful, but not directly applicable。 Not even relatable。 It tells you why you brush your teeth, but doesn't tell you how to do your dishes everyday。 This book however, is the guide to everyday life。 There are many things I could say about this book, because it has contributed to my happiness more than anything else I've read recently, but it changed one key belief in my mindset that has been holding me back so far, unbeknownst to me。 So I will just tell you about that one。 If you want to become a runner, the popular advice these days is to lay out your running gear the day before, visualize how you will feel after the run, set a time for it and put it on your calendar, and to just run for 10 minutes。 No one sets a new year's resolution to run for 10 minutes。 Can you imagine running for 10 minutes x times a week and calling it a running habit? Can it sustain you? If your answer is no, this book has a key idea for you。 Building a habit is a journey。 It is a journey from who you are now, to who you will become once your habit is formed。 It is the work of growing a new identity。 Each action you perform is a vote。 A vote for the kind of person you are。 You don't need to finish a marathon to become a runner, you don't need to attain your fitness goals to be a fit person, you don't need to have a perfect home to be clutter-free。 Each time you run, you are a runner。 Each time you eat a healthy meal, you are fit。 Each time you do the dishes, you are clean。 Any time you vote for your habit, you have that identity。 It is a liberating idea。 If you are an all-or-nothing kinda person, and you are looking to build a habit, you aren't going to go to all from nothing in one day, or one week, or even a month。 You are betting against yourself by holding on to the all-or-nothing mentality。 Whenever I went on runs any less than 5K long, I used to be disappointed in myself。 I needed to run 5K or I might as well have stayed home。 You can imagine how far this mindset got me。Now, anytime I run, I'm a runner。 It's simple。 This idea has transformed my life, along with systems over goals, and other gems found in this remarkable book。 It has given me balance, helped me course correct and get rid of my all-or-nothing mindset。 Invest your time and money in this one。 Read it, listen to it, have it on in the background。 I hope something clicks for you too。 。。。more

These self-help books are great as long as you are following up the reading with implementing it in your daily life。 Otherwise, for a few days after reading the book, you will be all amazed and satisfied that you have gained life-changing lessons, and then the lessons or the message will drown in the dark, hidden recesses of your mind and you will be back to your old ways。 So, follow it up with the daily practice of the key ideas given in the book。

This book had some really great tips on how to lay out smart habits in order to reach your goals。 I recommend this book to everyone and warning it will be tough to put down。

I really appreciated that this book went beyond other habit books to look at specific steps and reasons habits fail and get hard。

Probably the best book on habits I have ever read。 I really liked how James was straight to the point in each of his chapters。

I listened to the audio version and it’s a quick read with so many great tips。 Definitely a change in mindset of not just setting goals but instead building habits so those goals are just part of who you are。
